Thanks, Brad. This essay is a great reminder of the heavy influence of German philosophy on American education.

Given my limited knowledge of the history of education in this country I could only speculate that these were indeed the goals of the people that have foisted this century-plus atrocity on us. Thanks for the explicit well-documented representation of just what these people were after. And, unfortunately, have succeeded at spectacularly.

Was there any notable opposition to state education at the time? What little I read in the past about the adoption of these ideas, there didn’t seem to be much resistance.
