Wrong: "They believe educators may be the key to teaching tolerance and to make sure everyone is represented." Correct: "They believe that educators may be the key to teaching tolerance and making sure that everyone is represented."
Wrong: "It may literally save a life for a student to see themselves in a book." Correct: "It may literally save a life if [or when] students see themselves in a book." Which still doesn't make any sense, but at least "a" student isn't seeing "themselves."
